About Deck Planner Lab

Deck Planner Lab is a small collection of practical deck-planning tools. The main estimator turns deck dimensions, board dimensions, spacing, and waste assumptions into a material-planning estimate for decking, joists, and fasteners.

The calculators are designed to show their assumptions instead of hiding them. They are planning tools, not structural engineering software. Span limits, beam and post sizing, footings, ledgers, connections, railing, stairs, permits, and manufacturer-specific installation requirements must be checked separately.

We periodically review formulas, usability, search intent, and the clarity of explanatory notes. If a calculator involves assumptions, those assumptions are displayed alongside the result where practical.
